Study creating city administrator job
Hendersonville Board of Mayor and Alderman approved 10-2 Tuesday to have a committee study the potential of having a city administrator.
“The committee will start meeting to study the merits, the pros and cons of whether Hendersonville would benefit from utilizing its position,” said Alderman Matt Stamper, who proposed the idea in the spring.
The committee will also study how it would be funded, the duties of the position, the salary and the potential hiring process.
The board voted Dana Swinea, Mt. Juliet finance director and former Hendersonville assistant finance director, to the committee. Other members are Rick Fox, Rita Lea, John Prentiss and Jim Young.

Hendersonville former mayor Scott Foster proposed hiring a city administrator way back in 2016. Alderson Stamper supported the proposal then and brought up the idea at a finance committee meeting. Just recently, the Hendersonville Board of Mayor and Alderman approved to have a committee to study the possibility of having a city administrator. The administrator’s duty if supposedly to take care of the city’s day to day activities thus making the mayor focus more on the economic development of the city. The committee appointed needs to study the pros and cons of whether Hendersonville would benefit from having this additional appointment.
